FAQ

Tropical ice machine basics

What is a tropical ice machine and how is it different from a standard one?

A tropical ice machine maintains full rated output at elevated ambient and water temperatures. FIVE PLUS ICE offers Standard grade (A/W 35°C/32°C) and Non-standard tropical grade (A/W 40°C/40°C). Standard machines designed for 21°C/10°C lose 30-50% capacity in tropical conditions. Our machines use oversized condensers, tropical-rated compressors, and SS304 stainless steel for Thailand, Southeast Asia, and equatorial markets.

How does ambient temperature affect commercial ice machine output?

For every 5°C above 21°C design ambient, a typical machine loses 10-15% of rated capacity. At 35-40°C ambient — common in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines — standard machines produce only 40-60% of rated output. FIVE PLUS ICE addresses this with Standard grade (A/W 35°C/32°C) and Non-standard grade (A/W 40°C/40°C), both maintaining 95%+ of rated output.

Why do standard ice machines fail in tropical climates?

Three reasons: (1) Compressors designed for 21°C cannot maintain cooling at 35-40°C. (2) Standard parts fail prematurely in high-temperature, high-humidity operation. (3) Replacement parts from European/American brands take 2-4 weeks to reach Southeast Asia. FIVE PLUS ICE solves all three with tropical-rated components, two performance grades, and a proactive wear parts program with free warranty replacements.

What performance grades does FIVE PLUS ICE offer?

Two standard grades plus custom temperature rating:

(1) Standard grade — A/W 35°C/32°C. For most tropical and subtropical markets.

(2) Non-standard tropical grade — A/W 40°C/40°C. For extreme equatorial conditions where both ambient and water reach 40°C.

(3) Custom temperature rating — We can build machines rated to your specific ambient and water inlet temperatures.

All grades maintain 95%+ of rated output in real-world tropical operation.

How to choose: If your location regularly sees 40°C+ ambient with warm water, choose Non-standard 40°C/40°C. For most tropical markets, Standard 35°C/32°C delivers excellent performance at a competitive price.

Product selection

What ice type should I choose for my business?

Gourmet cubes (clear, slow-melting) — upscale restaurants, bars. Standard cube ice (22×22×22mm) — restaurants, cafes, hospitality. Nugget ice (chewable, soft) — QSR, healthcare, beverage chains. Snow ice (fine, fluffy) — dessert shops, shaved ice. All available in tropical-rated configurations.

How do I calculate the right ice machine capacity?

Estimate daily usage: restaurant 0.5-1.0 kg/seat, bar 1.0-1.5 kg/seat, hotel 1.5-2.5 kg/room. Add 20-30% buffer for peak demand. In tropical markets, choose a machine rated at your actual operating temperature. Contact us for a free capacity calculation.

Can I customize the ice machine specifications?

Yes. We can customize rated ambient/water temperatures to match your local climate, plus voltage (220V/380V, 50/60Hz), compressor brand (Panasonic, Copeland, Bitzer), ice thickness and shape, control interface language, and condenser type. OEM/ODM services including custom branding and packaging also available.

Technical & performance

What is the actual ice production rate at rated conditions?

FIVE PLUS ICE machines are rated at their designated grade conditions — Standard at A/W 35°C/32°C, Non-standard at A/W 40°C/40°C. The published daily output is the actual production at rated condition, not a lab number. Field testing in Thailand shows 95-98% of rated output at 35-42°C ambient. Standard machines rated at 21°C typically deliver only 40-60% under tropical conditions. Always ask suppliers for rated ambient/water temperatures — if they can't provide data at 35°C or 40°C, their numbers are misleading.

What refrigerant do FIVE PLUS ICE machines use?

R404A or R290 (propane) depending on model and market. R404A is widely used and compatible with existing service infrastructure. R290 is an eco-friendly natural refrigerant with low GWP.

Are your machines made of stainless steel?

Yes. All machines use SS304 food-grade stainless steel for all food-contact and exterior surfaces, providing corrosion resistance in high-humidity tropical environments. Internal structural components may use corrosion-treated steel.

Trade & after-sales

Do you provide Form E certificate for ASEAN imports?

Yes. Form E Certificate of Origin is provided with every export to ASEAN countries, enabling AFTA preferential tariff treatment under ACFTA. This typically reduces import duties by 5-12%. We handle all documentation as part of our one-stop export service.

What is the lead time for ice machine orders?

15-25 days for in-stock models, 30-45 days for customized orders. Shipping to Southeast Asian ports (Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Manila, Jakarta) takes 7-14 days by sea freight. Expedited production available for urgent orders.

What after-sales support do you offer for tropical markets?

Our approach is prevention over reaction:

(1) Pre-shipment wear parts list — we analyze your order against Thailand field data (since 2019) and recommend specific wear parts to stock.

(2) Free warranty replacements — if a part fails within warranty, we include a free replacement with your next order. No claim forms, no shipping fees.

(3) Remote support & training — video-call diagnosis, repair guidance, maintenance manuals, and troubleshooting guides in English.

Do you provide a wear parts list with each order?

Yes. For every order, we prepare a customized wear parts list based on your models and our Thailand field data. Typically includes water pumps, inlet valves, solenoid valves, fan motors, control boards, and compressor contactors. You choose which to stock. Warranty failures get free replacements with your next order.

How fast can you ship spare parts?

If you've stocked parts from your wear parts list — zero wait. For unstocked parts, we maintain inventory of key components and ship promptly. Warranty parts are free and ship with your next order. Three ways covered: (1) stock proactively, (2) ship from inventory, (3) free warranty replacement.

Do you offer OEM/ODM services?

Yes. Full OEM and ODM services including custom branding, colors, packaging, and labels. Specification modifications for voltage, compressor brand, ice shape/size, control panel language, and condenser type. Flexible MOQ.

What is the MOQ (minimum order quantity)?

Flexible. Standard models: 1 unit for sample evaluation. OEM/ODM with custom branding: typically 10-20 units. We support new distributors with smaller initial orders.

Installation & maintenance

What are the installation requirements?

(1) Electrical — matching voltage/frequency, dedicated circuit. (2) Water supply — potable water, inlet temp per grade (Standard ≤32°C, Non-standard ≤40°C), pressure 0.1-0.5 MPa, filtration recommended. (3) Drainage — floor drain. (4) Ventilation — 30 cm clearance for air-cooled models. (5) Surface — level, stable floor. Remote installation support available.

How often should I clean my commercial ice machine?

(1) Water filter cartridge — replace monthly. Tropical climates clog filters faster; a saturated filter reduces flow and accelerates scale buildup.

(2) Evaporator and water circuit — clean monthly. Descale and sanitize the evaporator, distribution tube, pump, trough, and inlet valve. Scale acts as insulation, reducing efficiency.

(3) Daily — wipe exterior, sanitize ice bin. (4) Weekly — inspect filter and condenser coils. (5) Annually — professional service: compressor, refrigerant, electrical, condenser deep clean.

Skipping one monthly cycle can reduce output by 10-20% and shorten compressor lifespan.

Key takeaway: Two things every month — replace the water filter cartridge and descale the evaporator & water circuit. This prevents 80% of performance issues in tropical ice machines.

What are common ice machine problems and how to fix them?

(1) Reduced production — check ambient temp, clean condenser, verify water pressure. (2) Thin/small ice — adjust thickness setting or descale evaporator. (3) No ice — check power, water supply, compressor, filter cartridge. (4) Water leaking — inspect inlet valve, drain, pump seals. (5) Unusual noise — check fan blades, compressor mounting, water pump. Remote support within 24 hours for complex issues.
